ACTIVITIES

There are so many activities in the Catskills in the Fall! It is truly one of the most beautiful times of the year in New York.
If you can, add an extra day or two to your trip so you can fully appreciate the area.

HIKING

The Catskills are a hiker's paradise. Below is a list of some of our favorite trails. All of them require cars. Get out there and enjoy the fresh mountain air.  
October is the best time to see all the leaves changing colors.  Remember, bring lots of water and appropriate hiking shoes.

Kaaterskill Falls: Difficulty- Easy.  A beautiful cascading waterfall.  One of the best payoffs for an easy and enjoyable hike.

Overlook Mountain Trail: Difficulty- Moderate.  4.6 out and back trail near Woodstock, NY.  This will take 4-5 hours.  Offers an excellent view at the peak.

Giant Ledge: Difficulty- Moderate to hard.  4-5 hour round trip.  Spectacular views from multiple ledges with a large number of mountains.

Slide Mountain Trail: Difficulty- Hard.  4-5 hours of rigorous hiking with spectacular views.
 

APPLE PICKING

The fall in the Catskills are a wonderful time to explore some local apple orchards!  Below is a list of orchards in the Catskills region, all of the orchards require a car.  Make sure to go hungry and fill up on homemade apple cider doughnuts!

Westwind Orchard: An Ulster County institution since the 1930s!  The orchard is open on weekends in October, make sure to check their website for apple availability.  There is also a farm store with fresh produce, doughnuts and cider.

Kelder Farm:  Located in beautiful Kerhonkson, this farm also has hayrides, a petting zoo and a corn maze!  The farm is open daily but check their website for picking availability.  
 

ANIMAL SANCTUARY

Catskills Animal Sanctuary: A great place to stop by and hang with some animals.  The sanctuary nurses animals back to health.  Offers beautiful views of the Catskills.
 

EMPIRE STATE RAILWAY MUSEUM

Empire State Railway Museum: Take a ride down memory lane on one of the oldest rails in New York.
 

ZIPLINE

Zipline at Hunter Mountain: Nearby Hunter Mountain provides an array of activities including ziplining. 
 

ANTIQUING

There are a number of antique stores and markets scattered throughout the Catskills area.

SURROUNDING TOWNS

Woodstock: Woodstock is only a few miles away.  It's a good place to grab a bite and check out the local hippies.

Phoenicia: Downtown Phoenicia is a short jaunt from the mountain house.  It's worth a visit if only for the fudge.
